Geological Museum After H. Karapetyan
The Yerevan Geological Museum was founded in 1937 by the famous geologist and distinguished scientist H. Karapetyan. The first exhibition was based on his rich collection and was supplemented with new exhibits over the years. After H. Karapetyan's death, the museum was named after the geologist.
The 3,700 exhibited specimens are a part of the museum collection, which totals 11,000 specimens. The exhibition is divided into 6 sections: archaeology, volcanology, mineralogy, minerals, rock science and mineral waters.
The mineral hall named after the American-Armenian collector A. Dildilyan, was opened in a new exhibition hall, where since 2012, 750 of the 1,400 rare minerals from deposits of 50 different countries, as well as minerals dedicated by Armenian geologists, are displayed.
One of the main goals of the museum is to show the geological structure of Armenia, the riches of the subsoil and the geological achievements. Here you can see metallic and non-metallic minerals, samples of minerals, fossil animals and plants, models of mountains, maps, etc.
